The Chickasaw tell their history by the seasons. The “Spring” of the tribe’s history was after the Civil War when we were settled in our new homeland in Oklahoma. We fought hard to become independent and free to establish our own Nation and elect our own officials to govern our lives. It was said that it was a time when “Our Ancestors are Singing!”
I found this beautiful fabric and the colors reminded me of the Spring season. It is a beautiful time of year when all the trees and flowers are blooming. The black sashing accentuates the colors. For the first time, I chose to outline the trees and branches with stitches. It was a laborious process, but I liked the results. It is really dramatic on the back. My Grandmother always said that the back of a quilt had to look as good on the back as it did on the front.
